Diablo II Review
Sunday, August 20, 2000
Introduction
Diablo II
is one of those games that "everyone" knows about. It's
one of
those games that, no matter what kind of gamer you are, you just
have to
have it. Blizzard has a clean track record and a history of
all-star games,
making them the kings of high-quality games. The original Diablo
was their
first game that wasn't a real-time strategy title. It combined
tons of
fast-paced action with minor elements of an RPG to create one of
the
finest, and most importantly, most enjoyable games ever. Diablo II
is the
latest from the geniuses over at Blizzard. After a three year
development,
this highly anticipated game finally hit the shelves Juny 28th.
With over a
million pre-orders, the sheer selling potential of Diablo II
forced other
developers to work around its release date. Has Blizzard delivered
another
winner, or have they just re-hashed the original? Read on to find
out.
Installation
Diablo II
supports three different installation types, ranging from around
300 megs all the way up to around 1500 megs. The difference is the
amount
of content copied onto your hard drive and accessed from there as
opposed
to from the CD. Since I had the space, I opted for the maximum
installation. There have been some known issues with the game not
running
on some CD-ROM drives, due to the fact that Blizzard has
incorporated a
piracy protection thing onto the Diablo II discs. Some of the
newer CD-ROM
drives won't be able to recognize the CDs. A quick call to
Blizzard
technical support, and you should be up and running.
