Icewind Dale Review
October 8, 2000

Graphics

Think Baldur's Gate. All Infinity Engine games seem to look near-identical, somewhat "total conversions" of the former. This is by no means a bad thing, however. Characters are nicely modeled, though not nearly as high-quality as the backgrounds. The beautifully done backgrounds show amazing amounts of detail, such as knobs on a dresser in someone's bedroom and bottles of this and that scattered about an alchemist's laboratory. The character portraits are beautifull hand-drawn, though a few more would have been nice, such as one for each race and class combination of each sex. The focus on Black Isle Studios' games has obviously been "gameplay over graphics", yet you get the best of both worlds here.
